Zayn Malik works hard to shed his boy-band image in a revealing new interview with Billboard magazine.

The 22-year-old split from One Direction in March 2015 after five years with the group. Since then, he has openly criticized some of 1D’s musical choices, previously calling their pop songs “generic as f**k” in the December/January issue of The Fader.
