Google-parent Alphabet's moonshots lost $3.6 billion in 2015 (GOOG, GOOGL)

Google parent-company Alphabet lost $3.6 billion on moonshot projects in 2015.

The so-called “Other Bets,” which includes everything from self-driving cars to internet beaming high-altitude balloons, generated $448 million in the 2015, compared to $327 million in the previous year.

Most of the reported revenue likely comes from Google’s high-speed broadband Fiber business, as most of the Other Bets are still in the early stages, and are not operating as revenue-generating businesses yet
