Foreclosure activity up nearly 20% in October

ATTOM released its October 2025 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report, showing 36,766 properties with foreclosure filings — including default notices, scheduled auctions or bank repossessions — a 3% increase from September and more than a 19% increase from a year ago.

October marked the eighth straight month of year-over-year foreclosure activity increases, with completed foreclosures up 32% from last year.

“Even with these increases, activity remains well below historic highs,” said ATTOM CEO Rob Barber. “The current trend appears to reflect a gradual normalization in foreclosure volumes as market conditions adjust and some homeowners continue to navigate higher housing and borrowing costs.”
