Stocks Turn Higher; Wal-Mart Leads Dow; Small Caps Take Heat

Stocks eked out modest gains in late-afternoon trading Tuesday, one day after stiff losses threw the market back into a correction. The S&P 500 added 0.4%, and the Nasdaq and Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.2% each. Small caps got crushed with the Russell 2000 down 2.3%.
